Working on dresses for the summer

I started working on a number of different dresses for the summer.  And in the middle of it all my sister asked me to give her a sewing lesson, so I stopped my projects and she and I shopped for a pattern, and came up with an easy one McCall 6203.  So we went fabric shopping and purchased a Jersey Knit to start.  I can't wait until she finishes.

What a problem

Please excuse me, I new to this whole blogging thing.  I love the idea of looking at the latest fashion and saying OMG! I seen a pattern for that dress, shirt, etc. and running over to Hancock Fabric to find a pattern for that very same item.  I was taught how to sew from my sweet and talented mother at the tender age of 11 in the year 1989.  I still have the very first outfit I made.  A brown wrap shirt with belt and a skirt.  I love that outfit because not only did my mother show me the ropes of interfacing, blind hems, & hemming, but because I made it.  Now grant it, I stopped sewing for some years.  But in 2006 after being diagnosed with illness after illness, and not being able to work I needed a hobby and I turned to my ole faithful SEWING.  I now suffer from several illnesses, one being Fibromyalgia so everyday is a struggle to do anything. But I really love to sew.

So in 2008 I needed a machine and my dear mother surprised me with a Singer Advanced 7422.  I was so happy that I got on the internet went to McCall's website and picked out a slew of patterns for which I wanted to sew.  I couldn't wait to go to Hancock Fabric and Mary Jo's to get some fabric.  So I made as many outfits as I can,@ times the pain kept me so I so to my machine and start sewing.  In February 2009 all of a sudden that stupid Singer would only sew one side of the stitches at first I thought girl you need to get some sleep so when I finally did get some rest I took a hard look at the stitches and realize it was not me it was the machine.  The right side of all the stitches were not there. So Lulu had to be sent away for a few weeks to be repaired, when I got her back I thought all was good...Nope there she goes dropping stitches  again and would only sew half of a zig zag, or half a buttonhole, etc. So I realize it would be cheaper to just buy a new machine than to keep shipping that Singer to Raleigh, NC for repair.  By now its June 2009 now were in a recession and I can feel it and smell it, because money is very tight in my household due to me not being able to work. So I thought what am I to do.  Fast Forward to December of this year my sister who was laid off from her job in July said I'll get you one.  With all the responsibilities she has, I was grateful she would put herself out to help me.  So now I have a Brother XL3750.  Now all I need is a serger to give my garments that nice professional look.
